Education:

Graduated with honors from medical faculty of Ternopil State Medical Institute in 1989.

Dr. Svitlana Smiyan defended dissertation of candidate of medical sciences in 1991, doctoral dissertation – in 1996. In 1997 she got the academic title of full professor.

Scientific activity:

Head of interdepartment research «Comorbid states in clinics of internal diseases and in practice of family practitioner: predictors of development, early diagnostics and treatment». Member of specialized academic senate at Ternopil State Medical University and at «Institute of cardiology named after academician M.D. Strazhesko» of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, member of organizational committee of scientific conferences of Ukrainian Association of Rheumatologists, member of editorial board of «Ukrainian Journal of Rheumatology». Member of annual congresses EULAR and plenary sessions of Ukrainian Association of Rheumatologists. Research supervisor of 4 doctoral dissertations and 13 dissertations of candidates of medical sciences in specialties «Internal diseases» and «Rheumatology». Applies methods of ultrasound diagnostics, clinical thermodiagnostics and roentgenologic densitometry.

Research interests:

One of the leading researchers in rheumatology. The main research interests include: study of pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment of osteoporosis, primary ostheoarthritis, gout, systemic diseases of connective tissue, systemic vasculitis. Firstly in Ukraine she started the studies of systemic osteoporosis by dual energy x-ray densitometry. Firstly by supervising of professor Svitlana Smiyan, the team of researchers formed the database of mineral density of boney tissue characteristics in healthy people of Ternopil region. The systemic analysis was held in pathogenetic connections of boney tissue changes in rheumatologic diseases, hematological and nephrological disorders, at bronchial asthma and COPD. Professor S. Smiyan researches the role and prevalence of cardiovascular risk, metabolic changes, affection of liver and kidneys at gout and ostheoarthriis. She worked out the schemes of corrections of comorbid states in rheumatologic practice.

Professional interests:

Author of more than 350 scientific articles, including 2 monographs, 6 manuals (2 in English among them), 2 methodical recommendations, 7 patents, 6 information sheets.

Dr. Ulyana Slaba MD, PhD,

associate professor

Education:

Graduated from Ternopil State Medical Institute in 1991. From 1992 to 1996 worked as physician in city hospital # 2. Has being working as an associated professor of Department of internal medicine # 2 since 2009.

In 2001 she defended her thesis on “Pathogenetic substantiation of enterosorbtion and cytoprotection for prevention and treatment gastropathy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.” The author, co-author of 79 publications and 3 textbooks.

Professional interests:

Treatment and prevention of side-effects of medications in the treatment of patients with musculoskeletal disorders.

Dr. Roman Komorovsky, MD, PhD

associate professor

Dr. Roman Komorovsky has been working at the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine since 2009.

Education:

In 1998 he graduated from I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical Academy (diploma cum laude). In 1999 Dr. R. Komorovsky pursued specialization in cardiology at Kyiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. In 2002 he defended a Ph.D. thesis "Right ventricular function, interventricular interaction in patients with acute myocardial infarction".

In 2002-2005 he continued his training in cardiology abroad, at Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou (Paris, France) and at Fondazione per la Ricerca Cardiovascolare (Ospedale S. Giacomo, Castelfranco Veneto, Italy). In 2005 and in 2008 he was a visiting physician at Allgemeines Krankenhaus der Stadt Wien (Austria).

Dr. R. Komorovsky is a native speaker of Ukrainian and proficient in English, Italian, French, Polish and German.

Professional interests:

General cardiology and echocardiography.

Dr. R. Komorovsky is a member of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI). He serves as a reviewer for Clinical Cardiology, Echo Research and Practice, Journal of Rare Cardiovascular Diseases.

Dr. Andriy Lepyavko, MD, PhD,

internist, pulmonologist

associate professor

Education:

Graduated with honors from medical faculty of Ternopil State Medical Academy in 2002.

Master’s degree (2003 р.) and clinical fellowship (2005 р.) in internal medicine was obtained at department of internal medicine № 1 of Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevsky. He had traineeship in gerontology and internal medicine at the Michigan State University in 2002-2003. After that he had traineeships at the University of South Carolina Upstate in higher education in nursing (2006) and in medical rehabilitation (2012). Courses in pulmonology – at the National Institute of Pulmonology and Phthysiatry named after F. G. Yanovsky of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (2013).

Scientific activity:

Dissertation «Age peculiarities of cholinergic regulation of heart at the adrenaline damage» was defended in 2009. Andriy Lepyavko is one of supervisors of the students’ research group at the department. Under his supervision students represented results of joint research and won the top places at the International conferences of students and young scientists in 2014, 2015 and 2016 years.

Cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases in aged patients: gender aspects.

Role of epigenetics in dysmetabolic changes.

Aspects of individual and evidence-based medicine in the clinics and treatment of internal diseases.

Author and co-author of 83 publications – 64 in science and 19 in education, including 25 articles, 4 manuals, 54 theses.

Dr. Roksolana Bodnar, MD, PhD,

Associate Professor

Dr. Roksolana Bodnar works in the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine since 2009.

Education:

In 2001 she graduated from I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical Academy (diploma cum laude). From 2001 to 2002 Dr. Roksolana Bodnar had specialization and was studing in magistrature. In 2002-2005 she continued her training in cardiology in aspiranture in the department of Internal Medicine of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical Univercity.

Scientific Work

In 2005 she defended a Ph.D. thesis "Clinicopathogenetic substantiation of complex wobenzyme and candesartan therapy for the patients suffering from myocardial infarction with hyperuricemia".

Dr. Halyna Lykhatska, MD, PhD,

Education:

In 2002 graduated from I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical Academy, degree in "Medicine"

Research activities:

In 2006 passed Ph.D. defence in gastroenterology on "Structural and functional changes in liver and bone mineral density and their correction in patients with peptic ulcer", Specialized Academic Council Д 20.601.01 in Ivano-Frankivsk State Medical University.

From April, 2013 till now is Associate Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine №2 of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University.

She is the author of 106 publications, 47 over the last 5 years, co-author of three manuals, two of them are in English. Is responsible for clinical work at the Department.

Digestive disorders, prevention and management of gastrointestinal diseases.

Dr. Liudmyla Migenko, MD, PhD, 

Assistant-Professor, doctor endocrinologist

She graduated from Ternopil State Medical Academy in 2001. In 2004 she received theraputist certificate at the Ternopil State Medical Academy of post-graduate education. From 2003 till 2008 she worked as doctor therapeutist in the Strusiv Regional hospital. From 2009 till 2013 years she achieved Ph.D. with thesis “Clinical and pathogenetic factors of lipid metabolism disturbances and trophical status in chronic pancreatitis patients and methods of correction”. Thesis was defended in SI “Dnipropetrovsk state medical academy the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine”, SI “Institute of gastroenterology NАMS of Ukraine”, Dnipropetrovsk. Research supervisor – Professor Liliya S. Babinets.

L. Migenko is an author of 30 papers.

Research interests lie in the area of comorbidity in endocrinology.

Dr. Oksana Kvasnitska, MD, PhD, 

Assistant-Professor, doctor pulmonologist

She graduated from Ternopil State Medical Academy in 2003. In 2004 she received therapeutist certificate at the Shupic Kiev medical academy of post-graduate education. From 2004 till 2012 she worked as doctor pulmonologist in the 2nd Ternopil city municipal hospital. From 2008 till 2012 years she achieved Ph.D. with thesis “Clinic and pathogenetic factors of nutritional disorders forming in chronic pancreatitis in combination with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, ways of treatment optimization”. Thesis was defended in P. L. Shupyc National Medical Academy of Post-graduate Education.

Research supervisor – Professor Liliya S. Babinets.

O. Kvasnitska is an author of more than 30 papers.

Research interests lie in the area of comorbidity in pulmonology, features of internal organs injury in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma.
